Weapons & Armour

You will notice there are no sections on Equipment. This does not mean equipment is not provided. Each PC is given a Standard Issue Survival Pack at Level 1. Anything else is up to you to acquire, assuming the GM provides the opportunity. The world you now inhabit is a harsh environment. To survive you have had to be strong and kill or be killed. Nothing is free and there is no entitlement. You either take it or it is taken from you. You may not be completely without mercy but you are not a fool.

Standard Issue Survival Pack

One large backpack, one bedroll, one week's dried rations, one week's clean water, water filtration kit, fire-starter kit, fishing net, pan & utensils, geiger counter, radiation pills (or shots), mask & goggles, first aid kit, one change of clothes.

Rubber Armour

Shields & Armour

There are various types of shields and armour in the Apocalypse. Choosing which best suits you is challenging, especially since you have no means to make purchases. At Level 1 you are given 20 Purchase Credits. You will need to acquire your shield, armour, and weapons with these 20 credits. Once they are depleted they are gone for good. Upgrading these items will have to be done in-game. Most likely you will either barter services or trade for what you need.

It is important that you keep in mind the size and condition of the items below. Where shields are concerned they vary in sizes for the simple reason that they are not made to order. No one is customizing shields to your liking. They are crafted from what materials can be salvaged from the ruins of society. Same applies to armour. Armour made from rubber is probably crafted from the tires of vehicles.

Weapons

There are two types of weapons in the Apocalypse: ballistics and traditional. A sword or crossbow is a traditional weapon, whereas a pistol or shotgun is a ballistics weapon.

During battle there is no bonus for your attack. You must win the attack with your roll against the GM. But each weapon causes Injury. Some more than others. In fact hand-to-hand combat likewise causes Injury, and sometimes quite a bit. Your fist alone can do a point of Injury. Choosing a weapon allows you to customize your character's fighting style.

A note on ranged weapons: If you intend to use a bow (or ballistics weapon) you no doubt want the advantage of being able to cause Injury while out of range of your opponent. Below you will find no details about the range of those weapons. This game is concerned with causing Injury leading to death and not the various types of injuries a weapon is capable of. All injuries can lead to death and any weapon can make that possible.

All you need to do is tell the GM what you want to do and then they will have you make a "Challenge Roll". Since you are out of range of your intended target they have no way of defending against that attack, and so the GM cannot make an Attack Roll simultaneously with you.

With a Challenge Roll you roll a d20. Anything over 10 is a hit. This is the advantage of having a ranged weapon. After the first successful hit your target (and their comrades) will know where the attack is coming from. The normal Attack Roll with the GM will resume. If you are still out of range and they win the Attack Roll it only means they either missed you or had no means of attacking you with a ranged weapon.

Ammo, Arrows, Bolts & Gas Supplies

With this original purchase at Level 1 you are given enough to get you to Level 2. After that you will need to acquire what you need by other means and keep track of all you use.
